National Film Archive of India is delighted to announce the 3rd screening of ‘Documentary Film Club’ on Sunday 1st July at its auditorium in Pune. Three award-winning documentary films by renowned filmmaker Shri Sankalp Meshram would be showcased and Shri Meshram will be present during the screening for interaction with the audience. The three films are Lasya Kavya–The world of Alarmel Valli, Into the Unknown and Girija– A lifetime in Music.
Padmavibhushan Alarmel Valli is undoubtedly, one of the greatest exponents of Bharatnatyam in India. The film ‘Lasya Kavya’– is an exploration of her oeuvre, her style, her philosophy and her persona. But more than being just about Valli, the film aims to bring an insight into the Art of Dance itself. The film won two National Awards for best film on art and culture in 2012.
Into the Unknown is the film about one building only– The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, Lisbon, the work by renowned architect Charles Correa. The film is like a detailed microcosmic attempt at understanding the philosophical and aesthetic roots underneath that sublimely beautiful design. The film is also a metaphor for all other Charles Correa’s work.
Padmavibhushan Girija Devi, who passed away last year, is considered as one of the foremost exponents of the ‘Purab Ang Gayaki’. The film ‘Girija – A lifetime in Music’ is an attempt to distil a small drop from the vast ocean of her musical repertoire. It tries to understand her stylistics, her work processes, her personal journeys and her philosophy.
Sankalp Meshram is a Writer, Producer, Director and Editor of films in Mumbai for the last 24 years. Completing more than 150 film projects, he has received Five National Awards apart from many other Citations and Awards from other forums.
He has also directed many Popular Television shows like ‘Surabhi’, ‘Kaliedoscope’, ‘Good Food Guide, ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, ‘Happy Go Lucky’, MTV Film Fraud Awards and MTV Filmi Fundas.
This is sure to be a treat to the film enthusiasts and students to catch his award-winning documentary films.
National Film Archive of India in collaboration with Arbhaat Film Club and Raju Sutar recently launched Documentary Film Club to help documentary cinema to reach the wider Indian audience. The film club aims to showcase a documentary film every month, along with interactive sessions with filmmakers and film scholars.
